Orlando, FL (June 15, 2015) – Orlando Family Stage (The REP) is proud to announce a $20,000 grant award from the Shubert Foundation. This grant is used for General Operating Support for the 2015-2016 season, and marks the fifth consecutive year it has been awarded to The REP. The Foundation provides grants only to organizations that have established artistic and administrative track records, as well as a pattern of fiscal responsibility.

The Shubert Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to sustaining and advancing the live performing arts in the United States, with a particular emphasis on theatre and a secondary focus on dance. The Foundation’s Board of Directors believes that the most effective way to encourage the artistic process is by providing the general operating support that reinforces the structure that nurtures its development. Accordingly, The Foundation does not earmark its awards; all allocations are unrestricted.

Although the primary emphasis is on theatre, with a secondary focus on dance, The Foundation also offers some awards to arts-related organizations that help support their growth and advancement.

The Shubert Foundation, Inc. was established in 1945 by Lee and J.J. Shubert in memory of their brother Sam, and is the sole shareholder of The Shubert Organization, Inc., which currently owns/operates 21 theatres: 17 on Broadway, one Off-Broadway theatre (The Little Shubert), and one each in Boston and Philadelphia. The Shubert Archive, a working repository of more than 10 million theatrical documents and related items, operates under The Shubert Foundation aegis.

The REP’s award is based on a host of criteria considered in the evaluation process; these range from general requirements to those specific to each applicant, and include the following:

  • Record of artistic achievement
  • Impact of the organization and its programs
  • Significant contributions to the field
  • Record of developing new work
  • Record of developing artists
  • Administrative strength
  • Ability to generate both earned and contributed income
  • Fiscal stability

The REP’s upcoming season includes Fancy Nancy The Musical, Orphie and The Book of Heroes, Mr. Richard and The Pound Hounds Halloween Concert, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer The Musical, Pip-Squeak: An Anti-Bullying Magic Show, Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing, Skippyjon Jones, and Junie B. Jones The Musical. Public performances of The REP’s season productions are Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00pm and 5:30pm, with tickets starting at just $14. School matinee performances are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
