Overview

Orlando Family Stage is pleased to announce its Sensory-Friendly performance of Seussical The Musical, specially designed for children with autism or other sensory differences and special needs. Following the success of previous Sensory-Friendly productions, Orlando Family Stage presents this performance on April 28 at 5:30pm for that audience.

The flashing lights and loud noises that may occur onstage can be unbearable for children with these types of sensitivities. And for many, the requirements to remain seated quietly for an extended period of time is a nearly impossible task. Often, because of these challenges, families that include a child with special needs do not feel that the world of theatre is accessible to them.

Special modifications have been made to Orlando REP’s production of Seussical The Musical for this Sensory-Friendly performance. Volunteer helpers are stationed in the lobby and throughout the theatre to assist patrons as they are seated. Adjustments have been made to the show’s lighting and sound effects. A quiet room is available, should patrons need to leave the theatre at any time. A Social Story, a resource guide for parents and children, is also available for download, so patrons can get a feel for the theatre experience before the day of the show.

SYNOPSIS: “Oh, the thinks you can think…” Seussical The Musical  bursts onto the stage in a fantastical, spectacular, musical extravaganza by Tony Award-winning composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Beloved characters – including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, and the Whos – collide in a journey spanning from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus. As Horton struggles to protect the Whos from injustice while sheltering an abandoned egg, will the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community be able to triumph? The Cat in the Hat is your magical master of ceremonies in this sensational smorgasbord of Seuss stories.
