Fall Youth Academy Production

“Getting to Know…Once Upon a Mattress”

If you thought you knew the story of The Princess and The Pea, you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that it may not have been the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of beguiling songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, Getting to Know…Once Upon a Mattress is a rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance providing for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are, you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again!

This is the Broadway show that launched Carol Burnett to fame as Princess Winnifred. Years later, she took on the role of the Queen with Tracey Ullmann stepping in as the Princess in a Disney television movie. Sarah Jessica Parker revived the show on Broadway in the 90s. This newly revised version is just perfect for Youth Academy and we are excited to bring this tale to the stage!

Spring Youth Academy Production

“Disney’s My Son Pinocchio Jr.”

Join the Blue Fairy, Stromboli, and a lively cast of characters as Geppetto journeys beyond his toyshop to discover the meaning of family. When the Blue Fairy grants Geppetto’s wish to bring his beloved puppet to life, the new father quickly learns that being a parent is full of challenges. He struggles to make his son “the perfect boy,” only to lose him to a gang of Roustabouts. It is only when faced with the thought of never seeing Pinocchio again that Geppetto truly learns the joys of being a father and loving his child unconditionally. The classic Disney story is now told from Geppetto’s perspective, featuring the beloved songs, “When You Wish upon a Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings,” alongside a host of new songs by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell).

This is based on the classic story of Pinocchio, but with a fresh twist- from the point of view of Geppetto. This script is based on the Disney television movie titled Geppetto and starring Drew Carey and Julia Louis Dreyfuss.
