Spring Break will always be one of the most exciting and anticipated moments of the school year. The phrase itself evokes images of relaxation and fun for kids of all ages, including the promise of sunshine, beaches, vacations, and the chance for a brain break before the final sprint to the end of the school year. While vacations may be out of the cards for this year, a break from reality certainly sounds wonderful! Orlando Family Stage is here to let your students’ imaginations run wild, and push their creativity to new heights during our week of Spring Break drama camps.

Come and join us for a week of fantasy and positivity, March 15th-19th!

ENGAGE YOUR IMAGINATION

There should always be time to devote to your creativity and imagination; especially in a reality that can feel overwhelming. In fact, according to several scientific studies, devoting time to engaging your imagination and creativity can yield several positive benefits including enhancing your problem-solving skills, preserving your memory, improving your social skills, and developing self-confidence. Youth Academy classes help students immerse themselves in the most creative and innovative parts of their brains through acting techniques and theatre games! That’s right! Playtime can help your students develop and strengthen attributes such as teamwork, improvisation, and empathy.

Our Spring Break camp themes for 2021 embrace the most imaginative, fantastical, and even absurd stories that we could find to keep your students engaged for the whole week!

Story Drama Saturdays!

We are offering a brand new type of class for our youngest students! Story Drama Saturdays are single classes that take place the weekend before or after Spring Break where students and a grown-up get to bring a story book to life outside in the park, with only the help of a blanket!

Join us for these outdoor Story Drama experiences perfect for creating special moments between you and your little one. All you need is a blanket and each other! All within the space that you create on your blanket, explore the world of sand castles, starfish, sunscreen, and ocean waves in Sea, Sand, and Me by Patricia Hebbell using creative play and a lot of imagination. You could also travel to the end of the world in a paper boat using creative play and a lot of imagination through the story of Hopper and Wilson by Maria van Lieshout. Reserve your spot ahead of time or drop in when you can. Parents, Grandparents, or Caregivers welcome.

Sea, Sand, and Me: Saturday, March 13th, 9:30-10:00am

Hopper and Wilson: Saturday, March 20th, 9:30-10:00am

Classes and Performance Workshops!

Students as young as 1st grade can join us for the whole week! Help your classmates create the most perfect fantasy world by becoming your favorite magical creature!

Polish your unicorn horn and get your dragon-fire ready! Create magical worlds full of fantasy and adventure as we explore a different story book each day! Using the actor’s tools of the body, voice, imagination and concentration, students become magical creatures with unique problems to solve and legends to create. Each day also includes crafts and outside play.

Or maybe you would rather perform in one of the most ancient mythical feuds of all time? Are you on the side of the rainbows or bunnies??? Youth Academy Performance Workshops are an opportunity for students to study, rehearse, and perform! With a focus on the performer, without costumes or scenery, each actor works in character development, rehearsal practices, and the actor’s process. These fun and challenging productions allow you to make friends, become more confident performers, and learn more about theatre!

Aaron is failing History, and his parents are angry. Worried and anxious, he goes to the park, where he meets a bunny…a talking bunny. Then a rainbow appears. It talks, too. Both the rainbow and the bunny are determined to make Aaron happy—and to best one another in doing so—even though they both seriously freak Aaron out.

Eventually, Aaron learns the truth…that for centuries, rainbows and bunnies have been locked in a bitter rivalry to make people happy, and now he has been drawn into their struggle. But today, a new revelation will lead to the beginning of the end. This is the day of Rainbows vs. Bunnies: Annihilation!

In-Person Performance Workshop: Rainbows vs Bunnies: Annihilation: March 15th-19th, 9:00am-4:00pm

Community Partners allow our imaginations to grow!

In a brand new partnership between two Orlando cultural institutions, we are so excited to announce an outdoor creative drama class titled Sprouting Imagination, which takes place at Leu Gardens! Using drama strategies to encourage team building, discovery, and creative play, this innovative and unique class will teach your students a deeper understanding of their place in the environment. REP Teaching Artists will lead this class on the grounds of Leu Gardens, and will film a final presentation for friends and family to view. Leu Gardens members receive a special discount for this version of the class!

Where does an acorn sleep? How did the butterfly get its name? When a dandelion and a feather become friends, what do they do for fun? This class is packed full of discovery, team building, and creative play! Through games, puppetry, and guided exercises, we create our own stories using the objects, plants, and creatures we find in the garden. Each day as we explore, we deepen our understanding of the environment around us and find our place within it. This course culminates in a filmed showcase of original stories that interact with nature in a new way. Flora & Fables is a chance to learn, grow, make friends, and let your imagination go wild!

This class takes place outdoors at Harry P Leu Gardens 1920 N Forest Ave, Orlando, FL 32803.

BROADCAST POSITIVITY

Orlando Family Stage is offering your students the opportunity to be the lead anchor on their own news network! Perform online or in-person in a brand new musical filled to the brim with positivity, Super Happy Awesome News! This show tells the story of two rival networks competing to be the happiest news show through music, reporting, and the power of positivity. This is your student’s chance to report the type of news stories that are worth being on TV! Join this ensemble of anchors and reporters who are working to be the change they want to see in this world.

Two siblings launch rival good news networks and find themselves competing for the title of happiest news show. Soon, their correspondents are in a whirlwind of ecstatic musical reporting – from joyful weather forecasts, to cheerful cooking segments and blissful political updates! But, when vulnerability starts peeking through the euphoric facade, they’re left wondering: is there room for raw honesty on a super happy broadcast?

Innovative Performance Styles!

There are two ways to perform Super Happy Awesome News, in-person and online. Both sessions will perform the same show, and every student that registers will receive a role and participate in the final performance.

The In-Person Session will put students in a one-of-a-kind filmed performance that will feel a lot like a live news broadcast! Using clever camera techniques combined with live theatre skills, the final performance will feel like a single continuous take with scenes that lets each student shine. Get ready for your closeup, and join us for the return of musical theatre to our classrooms!

In-Person Performance Workshop: Super Happy Awesome News!: March 15-19, 9:00am-4:00pm

3rd-8th Grade

The Online Session allows students to perform this exciting show remotely. With the help of Orlando REP’s professional Teaching Artists, the cast will receive and rehearse their roles throughout the week, and then record their scenes on their own. This allows students to embrace their theatre-making minds from home, and to be in charge of their own creative process. Super Happy Awesome News was written with the intention to be rehearsed remotely, performed virtually, and shared with audiences online. It takes a full ensemble of cast members to tell this story, so take advantage of this opportunity to bring this show to life! We are looking forward to your creativity!
